Today we’re keeping it short and sweet. First, we’re introducing you to a new AI tool, second, read our interview with Kaitlyn Arford, a true advocate for freelancers and the self-employed. Arford commits so much of her time to helping her community land new roles, so we tapped her for advice on finding work. After that, scroll on for the best opportunities on the Harlow job board this week.
Let’s get to it.
Freelance sponsor & advocate: A new AI tool for you
Writing content is hard, especially if you're not familiar with the subject you're writing about.
We've created an AI tool that can write in-depth content on any topic in your client's writing style.
Simply enter the topic, adjust the outline and generate your article. We'll give you all the research notes so you can be confident in your content's accuracy.
Create your first three articles for free and see how Hypertxt can help you impress your clients.
Our interview with Kaitlyn Arford
Kaitlyn Arford is the founder of the popular bi-weekly newsletter Freelance Opportunities! You can sign up to get new opportunities in your inbox twice a week. When she’s not sourcing new gigs for the community, she writes about pets and the people who love them.
This week, we asked her for input on landing clients and her forecast for freelancing in 2025.
Q. What inspired you to start the Freelance Opportunities! newsletter?
I lost clients during the pandemic. I suddenly had nothing going on and started looking for clients to work with. While scrolling through social media and job boards, I found opportunities that would work for others, so I shared what I found on my Twitter account. I realized that, while there were a lot of resources for freelance writers, the same efforts weren’t being made for other freelance creatives. So I started searching and sharing opportunities for other freelancers, and that naturally evolved into a newsletter for multi-passionate people.
Q. What’s your number one piece of advice for freelancers who are looking for new clients?
Think about how to position yourself as an expert. There are a lot of freelancers out there, so why should people hire you? They’re not going to hire you just because of your skills. Show potential clients why you’re the one who will help them reach their goals.
Get specific about who you want to serve and why. When you get more targeted, you’ll have an easier time reaching the type of clients you want to work with, and you’ll gradually build a business that works for you.
Don’t just rely on pitch calls and job listings to find clients. Start relationship-building by attending conferences, getting to know local businesses, and just plain connecting with people. Send letters of introduction. Update your portfolio. Market yourself regularly. You have to be proactive to land clients. If you’re building your client list, that is your job.
Q. What’s your outlook on the freelance job market in 2025?
I’m hopeful for 2025. A lot of companies are leaning into hiring freelancers, so the opportunities are out there. But I also recommend diversifying your revenue streams so you have a stronger foundation, no matter what the future holds. Consider working in multiple niches or offering more services. Every successful freelancer I know has different revenue sources they rely on.
I know a lot of freelancers are afraid of being replaced by AI. Companies experimented with AI in 2024, and we’ll see more of that in 2025. That said, AI can’t do what we do. Work on skills that AI can’t replicate. It does not have the creativity or emotion you do.
Regardless of what happens, please take Matthew’s advice and protect yourself. You can’t do anything if you’re working yourself into burnout.
Give Kaitlyn a follow on LinkedIn and make sure you sign up for the Freelance Opportunities! Newsletter. It’s rich with information on growing your business and it features new jobs every single week. It’s a must-subscribe for freelancers.
