Why I chose Solo Health Collective for my health insurance
and why you might too
A couple of weeks ago, we hosted an event with Solo Health Collective where they walked our crew through health insurance options and how to think about coverage when you’re self-employed.
I mentioned I was assessing my own options through Solo at the time. Today, I'm writing to tell you I ended up choosing a plan through them.
Here's what happened:
My situation: My current health insurance wasn't renewing with my local hospital, which meant all of my current doctors would now be out of network. That wasn't going to work for me.
The Solo experience: The team spent real time with me. They walked through my needs, reviewed my list of current doctors, and did the research. It felt like they truly cared that I was getting on the right plan with the right coverage.
Throughout the entire process, they made it less confusing and more straightforward. They were honest about the process, price, everything.
It was SO refreshing, especially in a field as complicated as insurance. A field where getting someone on the phone or getting any type of support can be cumbersome and frustrating (to say the least).
I really feel like they're changing the game, and I'm excited to be part of that shift.
Why this matters now (outside of my story):
Congress recently decided not to renew ACA subsidies, making health plans more expensive for solopreneurs. If you're evaluating your options for 2026, now is the time to explore what's available.
The next ACA Open Enrollment deadline for a 2/1 start date is 1/15. But here's what makes Solo different: you can join any time of year, not just during open enrollment periods.
Solo is still allowing people to set up their plans for a January 1st start date, and if you’ve already set up your plan through the ACA and aren’t happy about it, you can likely cancel that plan and get on Solo.
Whether you're new to freelancing or have been working for yourself as long as I have, Solo may be for you.
Ready to explore your options or lock in coverage?
Chat with the Solo team - consultations aren’t required but I definitely got a lot out of mine, you can also create your plan without speaking with a team member.
Cheers,
Samantha
